An interesting take! I too loved Ocarina of Time (and Majora’s Mask) as a kid. I am not so harsh on it for its non-Christianity. But then I have always loved mythology in general, and been content to view it through that lens. Ultimately, OoT and MM are like old friends.
I didn't mean to come off harshly about it's non-Christianity. If Christians dismissed everything that was pagan or heretical, we'd be dismissing some of our most culturally important stories. Even Saint Augustine fondly referenced 'The Aeneid' in his writings. But, I don't want to be completely uncritical about elements that disagree with Christianity in stories I appreciate, either.
Any discussion of Ocarina warrants an examination of its dark shadow, Majora’s Mask. Would be interested in your take regarding this (my personal favorite) other masterpiece!
I first played it on the Wii Virtual Console after I finally beat Ocarina, and it blew me away, even though it was so frustrating that I looked at walkthroughs throughout the whole thing. A few playthroughs later, I found myself still frustrated by the time limits, and that combined with thinking back to how I had to spoil my first playthrough with walkthroughs made me realize that this game may not really be for me, so I haven't played it in years since. I can't deny that the story is compelling, though, hence I still want to check out the manga.
